Hi all, just joined, so thought I’d do my intro. I learned to shoot FITA style at the Aquarius archery club in north London waaay back in ’93. I never shot in competition, okay, I did once, but I don’t like to talk about it. What I’m interested in now is more for stress relief/meditation, Kyudo being another style I’m looking into. So for now I’ll be dusting off the old recurve and setting up a target in my yard (really big yard). I look forward to hearing about your bow adventures. Anyone in the Seattle area give me a jingle, or across the world for that matter.

If you don't want to talk about it, then why bring it up? Anyone who says they don't want to talk about it desperately wants to talk about it. Is it like a poker bluff? Wanna put some money up? Kyudo's really peaceful, watching your arrow skip along the ground. Especially for the target.

      welcome
I haven't gotten my stuff out yet.
Its been raining the past week but
its supposed get nice and winter is gone.
      woo hoo
  • I got a theory and it's a good one! The traveler accidentally shot someone while competing! Or got shot (perhaps also by accident). What better reason could there be? His religion forbids it? Knowing Tripe.net, that's a possibility too. I guess if I accidentally shot someone I'd become a traveler, wander around and eventually wind up in Seattle.
    • Sorry Wonceler, it was just a failed attempt at humor, no blood was spilled, only my pride. I did spectacularly badly, even missed the target at 50 meters a few times. The nice thing about that event was the night at the private pub the club has on site.
As for my religion, the only thing it restricts me from are certain acts with animals, but not blood letting(of any species). Yes, Kyudo is peaceful and so is target archery, if I want to make some noise I’ll use my Glock. :-)
      • Re: kyudo: That was my attempt at humor. I watch these guys at Redwood with this whole production number only to watch the arrow hit the ground in front of the target. It's like a tea ceremony with bows & arrows.

        Which Glock do you have?
        • which Glock

17, no mods, just for killing paper targets once a year.
"tea ceremony" - now that's funny, but very true, however I'm surprised they didn't hit the target.
The Target and Arrow must have a conspiracy going to put the blame on the bow. When everyone is looking to the Bow for answers, T & A will create a new world order. When T & A run the world, well, one can only imagine the consequences.

"It's like a tea ceremony with bows & arrows."

That's *exactly* what it is. The real purpose of kyudo has nothing to do with hitting the target (which is really hard with that equipment!) just like the tea ceremony is not really about tea. They are both forms of Mind training.

At any rate, sorry to drag up a year-old thread, but I ran across it today and wanted to add that there's a Kyudo tribe if anyone's interested:
