Searching around for a Bow, i have experienced nothing but very high prices, many out of my range.
As a beginner to Archery without hunting, i was wondering if anyone has success or info on how i could go about making my first bow, or if some of you have and have not been successful at it... pros and cons about itwould be greatly appreciated .

Finding the right bow is very dependent on what you want to do. There's traditional archery, with a bow made of wood with or without fiberglass...compound bows, and olympic archery which uses the latest technology to design and build the most efficient and fastest recurve bows.

So, What do you want to do with archery? How do you want to shoot? How much are you hoping to spend?

It will be my first go at it and i feel im approaching it as more of a meditation and relaxation. also to reconnect outside with nature. Im not quite as knowledgable as you certainly sound here so i hope i made some sense.

You made perfect sense. For your goal of meditation and relaxation, just about anything would do. A cheap starting bow such as an internature (wooden recurve) or a genesis (beginner compound) as a few starter ideas. But you should definitely find a book about Kyudo. It is Japanese traditional archery focusing on zen and being one with the arrow. If you like it, you could check out Karme Choling Buddhist retreat where you can learn Kyudo from the last bowyer to the Japanese emperor. www.karmecholing.org

Thank you Mike for your input and helpful advice, i think the one that appeals to me is the (wooden recurve) but i will search around for both that you mentioned and the book.
Ive been to Karme Choling and its qutie a beauiful place, the grounds are spectacular....

yes i do when i can, right now its hard to get to a range offten, but im trying to move into my own place and part of finding a good place is that it has to have enough yard to acomidate my archery as well as my other primitive wepons. but to get back to meditation, i still have a hard time with focusing on one hand im trying to improve my skills and on the other im trying to let go and meditate. OY im curently looking into finding a local kyudo group maybe that will help combine things for me.

                  Hi Tiny,
I hope you find a place with a really nice back yard that would allow you to enjoy and further your meditation practice with your bow, it sounds like you really have a nice connecton with it and great desire to expand on it....In my ordinary meditation practice, it can be hard for me to focus myself at times, but i just allow what comes up to come up and go, its all a continuous circle...
Archery is pretty new to me, and its quite exciting to be exploring it. at this point in my life, keep your eye out for that group, its probubly closer then you think...... at least i hope you will find one soon....
                  thanks for sharing...

I might suggest looking around for some archery shops that have an indoor range.
Some of these shops may teach archery or have 'loaner' bows that people can use on the range.
I got my 66" 25# draw Bear Victor Patriot recurve from a shop that used it in its school. I think I paid about $75 for it?
It's a low draw, but it shoots like a dream and in the years I have had it has been very good to me despite the previously used condition.

Another option could be pawn shops. I mostly see compounds in there. (I'm not a fan of compounds) But once in a while you will find a recurve or two.
